mood- sick

...well i was reading something written by someone else NOT ME..that i thought you all should read to educate yourselfes more on the term "punk"

Whats Punk? the ABC-s to all you pop-rockes claiming to be punks.

the history of the word 'punk' dates back centuries. hookers were called punks in the late 18 and thru the 19 century. in the begining of the 20 til around the 40's the name 'punk' fell upon all those boys (or even men in some cases) who were sexaully abused in prisons, youth colonies etc. later and even during that time street kids were called punks. poor kids who stole or just were not the clean cut pussies. rockabillys were even called punks. you see in that time 'punk' didnt reprisent a look or a style of music, it just used as a nick name for all 'troubled kids' in the 60's hthe hippie scene exploded. music was still pretty clean only with a more revolutionary twist in some cases. labels prefered a capella bands (those clean cut boys from the 50's), some rockabilly stuff like james myers, bill haley and whatever. with the explosion of the beatles lables started to sing on music like that too. well what about the street kids? they werent gonna just sit around and do nothing. they startet theyr own garage bands which didnt catch on with the lables since 'they werent up to the standards or were too radical'. a comunity started to form. in brittan the skin head movement started in the 60's thru what eventually ska saw day light, but thats another story. anyways the main scenes started to form in the new york underground and in london. new yorks fines 'elite' gatherd in andy warholes 'factory' and enjoyd the wonders of velvet underground and iggy pop, while london saw the rise of new your dolls and all these other 'anti-pop' bands. you see the thing was that the youth was becomeing sick of these sappy lovesong bullshit, they wanted something that would reflect the hard everyday life they faced. so new york dolls producer, malcom mclaren, saw an opurtunity to make some cash. he picked up john lydon from the streets (johnny rotten), thought the guitarrist to play in 2 weeks etc, and a band was formed. sex pistols. indeed a product but a product that would bite the hand that feeds it. thanks to inner conflicts the first bassist glen matloc left and was replaced with john simon richey (sid vicious). this became the downfall of sex pistols. they got rid of mclaren and continued to piss of the public to the point they were being attaced on the streets on a regular bases. by this time they were pretty much drug addicts and had enough cash to support that addiction. the 'real' punks came into play. back from the streets the poor kids, the poor punks were outraged, sex pistols has sold out (and did no attempt to hide it) so a lot of street kids punk bands were formed. bands like sham 69, angelic upstarts, hersham boys etc and this became another revolution, the revolution of OI! the mid tempo pollitical agressive punk rock - the punk of the poor. later in the 80's hard core was invented thru binding metal with punk. most famouse of all, the later works of the exploited. in the 70's someone said in the news papers that punk will eighter go back to the underground or become a corporate product. well as we see now it did both. a branch of punk called the californian punk evolved into a corporate product loosing all its roots with punk to the point of becomeing pop-rock and the other? the 'real deal'? well its alive and kicking. mostly in europe where corporate shit doesnt sell that well. theres still scenes and concerts and festivals and riots and squatting and zines and all that punk started with and picked up on the road. now it has become a movement with a clear cause and has gotten more organized. anarchy in the uk? what about a better social system, the crack down on corporate crime, the tearing down of capitalism etc. what about the music? we still have it all. bands doing the 77 punk or the 'sound of sex pistols' only better than the real thing, oi has gotten to point when some bands are more techincal than new metal bands, hc? harder, faster and with more power. ska? with the invention of skacore the world of ska might never be the same again and so on. anyways punk is alive and kicking in the hearts and minds and on the stages here in underground scenes, while the coroporate pop rock is an empty crust on the cover of magazines and on mtv.

aslong as there are people playng or listening to punk rock, punk is alive
aslong as theres rebels with or without a cause, punk is alive
aslong as we've got boiling blood in our vains, punk is alive
you can kill a punk but you cannot kill punk.
